I am entering the Lumby Stars Pee Wee Rep Tier 4 team for this contest because they are a great group of kids!! Some of them have been playing together since they were really young and they are all good friends off the ice as well. Coming from a small town and community we have been playing against teams that have benches that are twice as large as ours. Knowing that fact never fazed our boys, and it gave them the extra boost to pull together as a team and play their best, win or lose. Every boy had a roll to play and each of them played their roll to the best of their ability. These boys were tested right off the bat during their home tournament at the beginning of the season. Half of our team was in bed at home with the flu and away from school for the week but come Friday night they all showed up to play! Much to the surprise of the coaches and parents. The boys got stronger throughout the weekend and came in second. The boys entered two Tier 3 tournaments and came in second in those as well. Their regular season record was 8 wins, 4 losses and 3 ties in a 6 team league. This group of boys always have something to laugh about during the games and practices to make the game of hockey fun, which is the whole reason we, as parents, register them in this great game in the first place. The Lumby Stars ended up in 3rd place in league standings but worked hard to win the Play-off Banner. Winning the banner sent them to play in the Provincials in Clearwater this past week where they also played committed, dedicated and focused hockey to come out on top once again only two days ago. Winning the Provincial Banner was redemption for this team as they came in second last year when they hosted the Provincials in Lumby. While Lumby was hosting the Provincials they were awarded the chance to visit with the Stanley Cup but were not able to make the meeting as they were playing when it came to Vernon, giving up that great opportunity to the Pee Wee House team. This group of boys, coaches, and parents are teammates, teachers and most of all friends, who spend a lot of time together outside of hockey to help make the game of hockey even that much more fun for the boys. This will probably be the last time this group of boys will ever play together as some move up to Bantam and some will try to get on to a higher tier team in a nearby community to further their hockey careers in the hopes to play on the Vernon junior team or maybe even the N.H.L. some day in the future! Meeting Mark Messier and the Stanley Cup would be a dream come true for these boys and it would be an amazing cap off to an incredible year of hard work and ultimate commitment by the 12 players and 5 coaches and trianing staff, 4 of whom don't even have kids on the team, showing once again the level of volunteerism and commitment to this team and to the great game of hockey that we all enjoy from the first face-off to the last cheer! (From all the fans of the STARS) "GO STARS!!! WHO LET THE STARS OUT? WHO, WHO, WHO, WHO, WHO!!!"
